Lippan Art: The Shimmering Soul of Kutch
Lippan art, also known as Mud and Mirror Work, is a captivating mural tradition from the sun-drenched deserts of Kutch, Gujarat. Rooted in the daily lives of the Rabari community, this art form transforms humble materials like mud, clay, and mirrors into dazzling wall designs that reflect both light and culture.
The word “Lippan” means “to apply” in Gujarati, reflecting the handcrafted nature of this intricate technique. Artists, traditionally women, skillfully mold floral patterns, birds, camels, and trees onto the walls of Bhungas—circular mud houses—creating both beauty and functionality. The embedded mirrors not only embellish, but also reflect sunlight to naturally brighten interiors and help cool the space.
Our collection of Lippan art brings this rustic elegance into modern homes—each piece a celebration of tradition, storytelling, and craftsmanship that shines from every angle.
